Learning Spanish on the beach

Intercultura - Samara Language School teaches intensive Spanish classes in a beautiful Pacific Coast setting. We offer classes to students of all ages, from around the world, in an intensive program, where you will enjoy a true cultural immersion experience in a rural Costa Rican beach town. You will learn to speak Spanish in one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, while you discover Costa Rican warmth and hospitality at its best.

The School is located in custom-built facilities right on the beach! Classes are held in comfortable, air conditioned rooms, each with a view of the ocean or in open air classes next to the beach. Study areas also include our tropical gardens, the open-sided "rancho" under the palm trees, and the beach itself, providing an ideal spot for learning Spanish at the beach. Each classroom is equipped with standard audiovisual equipment, whiteboard, and a large communal study space encouraging didactic activities and easy participation. Hammocks provide for relaxation time outside of class.

Classes begin every Monday. We have a total of 12 levels, followed by 6 levels of specialized courses in Literature, History & Politics, Society & Culture, Gender, Ethnology and the Environment. All are taught entirely in Spanish, using the Communicative Approach as the basis for instruction. Groups are small (maximum 6 people, average 4) and allow for much participation and student interaction. Classes are held in the mornings or afternoons. Each week students complete one level, moving up in weekly units through the comprehensive program. Our professors are university qualified and credentialed to teach Spanish as a second language. They have all been certified by our Professional Development Training Program, and regularly participate in ongoing seminars in Costa Rica and abroad, thereby keeping up with current methodological trends and teaching concepts.

Students have three choices for accommodations. They may live with a Costa Rican family, stay in the luxury hotel connected to the school, or live in a student Residence.

Free daily cultural activities for our students include:

  • Latin dance
  • Latin music and local cuisine
  • Spanish film nights
