SUP is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. The sport is an ancient form of surfing, where you stand up on a large, wide, super buoyant surfboard & use a long paddle.

Feel like you're walking in water! Stand Up Paddle is designed for all ages and abilities. Many people find this sport easier than surfing which makes it so popular. It is a perfect way to see the beautiful coastlines of the Central Pacific from the open waters. The area offers several beaches which are ideal for Stand Up Paddling.

Camaronal or Ostional Turtle Tour

• Pick up time: 7 PM
• Duration: 4 hours
• Pick up place: any hotel in Samara/Carrillo Area

In Playa Camaronal and Ostional nest four of the seven species of sea turtles in the world, these are the leatherback, Olive Ridley, hawksbill black; all declared species endangered, but the most common nesting records are for Olive Ridley and a much smaller proportion of the leatherback, hawksbill black.. The best time to visit Ostional is just before and during an Arribada. These occur, as a general rule (not always), at the start of the LAST Quarter Moon. After an undetermined waiting time, close to the last quarter of the moon cycle, the "arribada" will begin. At first, a few hundred turtles will come out on the beach, followed by a steady stream of animals for the next three days.

What to bring? Secure walking shoes, dark clothes and mosquito repellent and poncho during rainy season.

Barra Honda Caves

• Pick up time: 7:00 AM
• Duration: 7 hours

Unlike the volcanic stone found throughout northern Costa Rica, the Barra Honda area of the Tempisque Basin where the Nicoya Peninsula joins the mainland has a foundation of limestone. Water has cut extensive caves through the small mountains of the park, and this is its best know feature. However, the park also has well maintained hiking trails. The protected tropical dry forest (though mostly secondary) within its borders is some of the last in the world, and very different from the rain and cloud forest that attract many ecological tourist to Costa Rica. Stalactites, stalagmites and other calcareous formations of the more than 40 limestone caverns are the main attraction at Barra Honda National Park. The caves are all in relatively good condition because their vertical entrances are difficult to negotiate. This is also why you need climbing gear, and a guide.

Palo Verde Bird & Crocodile tour
